Yala National Park

The most frequented and second largest national park in Sri Lanka is Yala National Park.  Situated in the southeast belt of the country, Yala was designated a wildlife sanctuary in 1900. The park has five blocks and the main entrance is block 1, which can be entered by Tissa – Palatupana route. Yala national park covers a land mass 979 square kilometers (378 sq mi). Yala posses the highest density of Leopards for square kilometer in the World. If you are a leopard enthusiast, Yala will be the best option for leopard sighting.  Additionally, Yala shelters many other species of animals ranging from elephants, wild boar, crocodiles, monkeys, water buffalo and a plethora of various fauna including eagles, white-bellied sea eagles, wades, painted storks and Indian peafowls.
