City of Jaffna is the capital city of the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. Jaffna's suburb Nallur filled in as the capital of the four-century-long medieval Jaffna kingdom. It is the regulatory central station of the Jaffna district situated on a peninsula of the same name. Jaffna is roughly six miles from Kandarodai which filled in as a well-known emporium in the Jaffna peninsula from classical antiquity. Preceding the Sri Lankan civil war, it was Sri Lanka's second most populated city after the business capital Colombo. Since the end of civil war in 2009, refugees and internally displaced people are returning to their homes and government and private sector reconstruction has begun.
